Soul of Steel

February 09, 20253 min read

There’s this voice we all have that whispers doubts into our ears. You know the one.

It says, “What if you’re not good enough? What if you fail? What if they laugh at you?”

It’s loud when you’re about to step out of your comfort zone—like it’s trying to protect you from rejection or embarrassment.

But that voice doesn’t have to control you.

Instead of letting it hold you back, you’ve got to build a soul of steel.

A Soul of Steel?

I’m not talking about becoming cold or shutting people out. A soul of steel isn’t about hardening yourself against emotions.

It’s about building a quiet, unshakable strength inside you.

It’s that kind of inner resolve that keeps you going when the doubts get loud or when “everyone else” says it’s impossible. It’s like building armour—not to hide behind, but to protect your dreams.

The Inner Critic wasn't born evil…

It’s tempting to think that inner critic is the bad guy, the villain trying to ruin your life. But honestly? It’s not evil—it’s just overprotective.

The inner critic wants to keep you safe, but it doesn’t know the difference between real danger and imagined danger. So, it reacts to everything with the same intensity, which is why it tries to talk you out of anything remotely risky.

The thing is, if you let it run the show, you’ll stay in your comfort zone forever. And the comfort zone? It’s cozy, but it’s not where dreams happen.

Building a Soul of Steel:

  1. Acknowledge the Voice, But Take the Lead
Here’s the thing: that voice is probably never going away. But you don’t have to let it take the wheel. When it pipes up, try saying, “Thanks for your input, but I’ve got this .” (Out loud if you like, but if you're around others and you'd rather not talk to yourself… you can answer the critic silently, too…)

  2. Focus on What’s True, Not Comfortable
Your inner critic thrives on “what ifs.” The antidote? Ground yourself in facts. What have you overcome before? What strengths do you know you have?

  3. Strengthen Your Armor Daily
A soul of steel isn’t built in a day. It’s forged in the small, consistent choices to keep going—even when it’s hard. It’s choosing to take one more step, even when you’re scared.

  4. Stay Gentle, But Stand Firm
You don’t have to be cold or harsh to be strong. Being kind, compassionate, and open can coexist with protecting your boundaries and dreams.

Why Bother?

Here’s the thing: your dreams deserve protecting. The inner critic might mean well, but it’s not the boss. You’ve got the potential to step into a bold, extraordinary life - but it takes courage.

When the doubts get loud, remind yourself of this: You’ve got to build a soul of steel. Protect what matters, take the next step, and keep going—even when the path feels uncertain.

Have you ever felt like your inner critic was holding you back? And next time it pipes up, will you let it take charge or will you let your soul of steel take the lead?
